The DJI Mavic Mini is a perfect beginner drone for anyone who’s looking into drone photography or videography. It is portable and has a smaller footprint when folded compared to its predecessor the DJI Spark. And while the DJI Spark can shoot 1080p video resolution the DJI Mavic Mini can capture 2.7K resolution. Being in a similar price point starting around 669NZD the DJI Mavic Mini is definitely a step up from the DJI Spark.

The Mavic Pro Platinum comes in a chic platinum colour. In comparison with the Mavic Pro, it can fly longer and quieter, giving you a greater flying experience. The maximum flight time of the Mavic Pro Platinum is extended to 30 minutes and the maximum hovering time is 27 minutes. The decibel level is reduced by 4 dB (60% noise power reduction) when it is within 1 m from the aircraft. The Mavic Pro Platinum inherits all the functions of the Mavic Pro.

The Mavic 2 Pro comes equipped with the Hasselblad L1D-20c camera. The L1D-20c possesses Hasselblad’s unique Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution (HNCS) technology, helping users to capture gorgeous 20-megapixel aerial shots in stunning colour detail. The new 1-inch CMOS sensor has an active sensing area four times more effective than the original Mavic Pro. The large sensor also means better performance in low-light environments with a more extensive ISO range; max ISO lifted from 3200 to 12800. The Mavic 2 Pro supports a 10-bit Dlog-M colour profile that yields a higher dynamic range for more flexibility in the grading room.

The DJI Mavic Air has the right mix of playability, portability, and image quality. While the Mavic Pro has obstacle avoidance in the front, the Mavic Air has both front and back making the Mavic Air an excellent option for those looking to get into the hobby. And if the flight time is not an issue, this drone is right on budget as it is capable of capturing stunning 4K videos.

Powered by a 1/2.3-inch 12-megapixel sensor with up to 4x zoom, including a 2x optical zoom (24–48 mm), the Mavic 2 Zoom is all about dynamic perspectives. Capture everything from wide-angle to mid-range shots for even more creative options. When shooting Full HD video, 4x lossless zoom (including 2x optical zoom) gives you a closer view of faraway subjects, making unique scenes more accessible to capture at a distance. This option also helps you maintain a safer distance from buildings, vehicles, animals, and people.

Featuring a 1-inch CMOS sensor that can shoot 4K/60fps videos and 20MP photos, the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 grants filmmakers absolute creative freedom. The OcuSync 2.0 HD transmission system ensures stable connectivity and reliability, five directions of obstacle sensing ensure additional safety, and a dedicated remote controller with a built-in screen grants even greater precision and control.

TIPS ON DRONE VIDEOGRAPHY and photography

Editing 4K videos

Editing 4K drone footage is a challenge, especially if your editing device is slow. However, it will make much difference if you shoot your video in 4K and later edit it into 1080p. The Minimum System Requirements when editing 4K would be 8GB of RAM (DDR2, DDR3 or DDR4), CPU Intel Core i7 2.3GHz four-core or similar specs and GPU would be NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M or same. 4K will give you more room to tweak the video. You can zoom in without losing the quality or crop the edges out if something is ruining the shot. Shooting in 4K is worth the effort.
